My Why…
I’d like to share a little about why I decided to create this website. To be honest, I never would have thought I’d be eating a whole food, plant-based diet. I grew up eating the SAD diet (Standard American Diet) consisting of lots of fatty meats, cheeses, and SOS (salt, oil, and sugar). I also ate fruits and vegetables, but they were not the main food group on my plate.
What made me decide to make the change was when I had a visit with my primary doctor and found out that I had high cholesterol, was prediabetic, and my BMI was in the overweight range. In addition to that, I just felt lethargic all the time. The doctor wanted to put me on medication, but I was not about to do that without a fight. I’ve watched so many people go down that path of prescription medications as a way of curing their ailments, only to become more overweight and unhealthier. I just knew there had to be a better way!
At the same time that I found out about my health issues, I happened to watch the documentary Forks Over Knives. It opened my eyes to so many things that were wrong about what I’d been eating: for my health, the animal industry, and the environment. This prompted me to continue researching, and the more I found out, the more I felt lied to.
I immediately made the change to a whole food, plant-based diet and within weeks I was feeling so much better. It wasn’t easy because I didn’t understand the jargon used and was constantly looking up what people meant by SOS, WFPB, and others. In addition to that, I had to look up what ingredients were in recipes, where to find them, and how to cook them. I’d never heard of many of them before! On top of that was the expense of changing what was in my pantry.
I believe it could have been an easier transition had there been more information out there to help, so that’s what made me decide to create this website. I’m trying to provide a one stop information storehouse, plus a place to share your thoughts and ideas, and even purchase items to help get you started. Remember…I’m still new at this. I made the transition in 2020, so I still have a lot to learn. I just want to spread the word to those who need help losing weight, improving their health, or just those interested in a better world around us. I’d love for you to be a part of this journey! My mission now is to SPREAD THE WORD!
